How to…download and install MALWAREBYTES.
You’ve probably come here from our quick guide to removing viruses, if not, you really should read that first.
There are many opinions on which software to use for removing rootkits, viruses and spyware. We’ve never found one definitive “free” solution that works best, but as a no-nonsense problem solver for an infected machine we have found that MALWAREBYTES is an excellent problem solver.
To download and install this software, follow these instructions.
1) Visit the [MALWAREBYTES] website

2) Click the “Download free version”, this will take you to “Download.com”. You should see a page similar to this:

3) Select the “Download now” link to begin the download of MALWAREBYTES. You may get a warning from internet explorer about the download, you can see below the yellow bar asking you if you’re sure you want to download the application.

4) Click on the yellow bar and select “Download file…”

5) When prompted, select “Run” from the File download dialog (seen below):

6) When the download completes, you will be presented with another option. Select “Run” here too:

7) Select your native language:

Begin the straightforward installation wizard. In most cases you will simply click “Next” for all options.

9) Accept the Malwarebytes license agreement:

10) Click “Next” until you get to the last screen of the wizard:

11) Update and launch the MALWAREBYTES application by clicking “Finish”.

12) Clicking “Finish” should trigger the automatic update, if you’re in safe mode this shouldn’t be blocked by any viruses on your computer. If you don’t see the screen below, don’t panic. You should still be able to run a Quick scan that should remove the problem.

13) A confirmation of the update will then be displayed prior to launching the main application:

14) The application should then launch and present you with some simple options. Make sure the “Perform click scan” option is toggled and Click the “Scan” button.

15) The scan will now be performed, you can expect a window like this:

16) Once complete you will get a notification that the scan is complete. If you have any issues, you will see that the “Objects infected” field has turned red and the number of objects the application has found will be detailed. You can see below that just one problem has been identified.

17) Select “ok” to take you to the problem resolution options. You will see a list of all issues found on your machine.

18) All of the issues should have a “check” mark next to them without any intervention (as above). To remove all problems identified from the system, just click “Remove selected”. This will hopefully get rid of any nasties lurking on your machine. You may be required to reboot to complete the clean up.
